With the curtains drawn down for the world’s greatest show, the Expo 2020 last week, the emirate of Dubai is putting its attention to creating District 2020, a smart city and full-scale innovation hub that will take shape in and around the Expo venue. Repurposing the entire Expo site will call for the dismantling of all non-legacy structures.
Some of the legacy buildings that will remain include the UAE and a few other national Pavilions, as well as the Mobility and Sustainability structures, the iconic Al Wasl Plaza, Rove Hotel, the Observation Tower, the water feature located in the central section of Expo, the Dubai Exhibition Centre, the Metro station and the site’s infrastructure. Some of the pavilions that have been confirmed to be repurposed include DP World, India, Germany, and the Saudi Arabian pavilions.
Dubai’s M Glory has announced its plan to set up its Electric Vehicle assembly and production facility at Dubai Industrial City. With an investment of $408 Mn, the 1 million sq. ft facility is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
Damac Properties has awarded a construction contract worth over US$136 million to Shapoorji Pallonji for the main works at the Santorini cluster in Damac Lagoons. Work is expected to begin in April and the contract includes 847 villas.
